SCOPA APPRECIATES SOCIAL GRANTS DEAL BETWEEN SAPO AND SASSA

Unknown

Parliament, Monday, 11 December 2017 – The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) appreciates the deal struck between the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) and the South African Post Office (Sapo), which brings to an end the uncertainty and anxiety of grant recipients and the nation at large.

The Committee condemns Sassa’s incompetence and obfuscation in this matter, and notes that time is short. This means that the Post Office must work hard and quickly to ensure that there is a seamless transition, so that grant recipients receive their grants on time

  1. Scopa is useless and toothless for acceptance of the Sassa/Sopa pension payments arrangements without forcing Sassa to hand over full payment story rights to Scopa. Its strange that Sassa didn’t put any limitations to current contracted private company and yet it is being allowed to prescribe to a State company. Why can’t there be a programme to capacitate Sapo instead of Sassa wanting a piece of the pie. It’s because Sassa takes pension payouts as their feeding trough. Scopa hasn’t shown any clout by metting out punitive measures to officials involved in failure to meet several deadlines. There is just rhetoric from Scopa with a bark and no bite.
