YESTERDAY I wrote a piece on the appointment of Sikonathi Mantshantsha as Eskom’s spokesperson and among the questions I raised was the recruitment process followed.
By end of day I had not received a response from Eskom and I published the article. Overnight, the company sent the following response and I publish the unedited version from Eskom’s media desk.
“We had a vacancy for Head of Corporate Affairs and we commenced the process last year of identifying a suitable candidate through a head hunting company. It has taken a while to identify a suitable candidate. Mr Sikonathi Mantshantsha was one of the people interviewed for the position. The spokesperson position has also been vacant. Eskom decided to prioritise this role given the need identified. Mr Mantshantsha was identified as suitable for the position of spokesperson. To save time and money, rather than test the market again, he was approached to ascertain if he would be interested, and he was then subsequently appointed at a lower level than advertised.”
