Depo Provera – “The World’s Most Dangerous Contraceptive”

We’ve previously published an article on the dangers of Depo Provera and specifically asked Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi why this poison was still being administered to women. http://uncensoredopinion.co.za/open-letter-dr-aaron-still-approving-contraceptives-infecting-black-women-hiv/

Since publishing the story we have been approached by other activists in this area. Depo Truth who can be found on www.depotruth.ca and www.dangersofdepo.ca – a book THE DANGERS OF DEPO is about the dangers, even potentially lethal effects, of the injectable birth control Depo-Provera. By sharing the controversial history of Depo, women’s stories, and explaining the scientific research regarding the shots’ many serious side effects, the authors hope women are better able to understand the drug so they can make truly informed choices.

The side effects and the stories told by women who’ve used the contraceptive are shattering.

My Depo Story Rochelle Russell 3/7/2017

My daughter was on Depo from 14 to 19 years of age. Headaches, painful heavy periods lasting from 2 to 6 weeks sometimes no period for months. She had nausea and weight gain, flashes in her eyes. Bre got pregnant soon after depo but during pregnancy depo caused spinal fluid to leak into her brain causing inter cranial pressure the shock to the body from having the baby pushed fluid faster into her brain. Bre had 2 massive brain bleeds and a stroke. On life support for 10 days. My healthy child died 19 days after giving birth to my only grandchild. Bre was my only child. #DeathByDepoProvera

  1. Only these symptoms can be known through diagnosis. Given the numbers of Black women and their literacy, it’s unpredictable how many died of these side effects. I know a few, who have become infertile due to Depo injection!! Rochelle was too young to be given Depo, may her soul rest in peace.

    1. You know Lele, a lot of young Black girls are given Depo. We honestly must have a campaign against this. I thought it was long banned. Im horrified.

    2. The most shocking aspect of the debate is the silence of women activists/ feminists/ doctors. It’s the power pharmaceuticals have on policy and debate – these Gender NGOs cannot afford to have their funders irritated by the disapproval of this contraceptive. Doctors too live in a world where they are gagged or be ostracised by the fraternity. In the meantime young girls die or become victims of this terrible poison.
