IN BRIEF: Chad’s foreign minister Moussa Faki Mahamat to head African Union Commission

Moussa FakiChad’s foreign minister, Moussa Faki Mahamat has been elected the new chairperson of the African Union Commission, beating his closest rival, Kenyan foreign minister Amina Mohamed. He succeeds Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma who has been at the helm for four years and stayed in the post for an extra six months when a successor wasnt found in July last year.

The Guardian reported that he had, in  an interview, said he dreamt of an Africa where “the sound of guns will be drowned by cultural songs and rumbling factories”.
