In a tweet from The President of the Gambia Adama Barrow, peace has been restored in his country. “I would like to inform you that Yahya Jammeh has agreed to step down. He is scheduled to depart Gambia today.

President Adama Barrow took his oath of office at a hastily-arranged ceremony at The Gambia’s embassy in Senegal while longtime ruler, Yahya Jammeh, refused to step down following a disputed election of 1 December.

Jammeh initially accepted the election but later changed his mind, plunging the country into a political crisis.
